So my friends, I thought I would start off my post tonight about something that has been on my mind for a couple of days. Growing up, I knew my Grandfather fought in WWII. I never really asked him about it because I figured it wasn't something he would want to talk about to a little kid. The other day when I was at my parents house, I saw a presentation that my Aunt had done up for remembrance Day and it was about my Grandfather. Now, I may talk a big game about stuff but I can tell you, I don't think I could volunteer to fight in a war. I have the ultimate respect for my Grandfather for lying about his age to enter into the Royal Navy...yeah he was only 17. I can't even imagine doing that shit @ 26. Reading the report, I never realized exactly what he did, I mean I heard stories of him almost falling overboard during the war, but I didn't know he fought on Canadian Destroyers and sunk UBOATS. I discovered that he used to be the lookout guy for the UBOATS. My Aunt had pictures of my Grandfather in uniform and of the Destroyers he fought on. He served on the HMCS Gatineau (pictures shown), which is a retired famous Royal Navy Destroyer. I guess I felt like I wanted to talk about it a little bit because I never thanked my Grandfather for risking his life for our Country. I'm proud to beable to say I'm his Grandson, I wish that my wife could have met him because he was a great guy!
Now, I'm going to move on to something else right now. Tonight, my wife and I ate at Milestones, it should be renamed to Thegoddammedwaiterdoesn'trefillmydrinkfor20minutesandI'mthirstystones...or I'dratherpasskidneystones. To me, the food can suck but as long as you make an attempt to see that I'm looked after, ie. my damn glass isn't empty, that I'm satisfied. I think the guy had Walleye vision or something. Also, I watched a movie called The Great Raid....it reminded me that the good movies are ones that don't get much hype, I think it was only in theatres for about a month because nobody saw it but I recommend it. I'm going to bed.
